Welcome to another podcast episode of "What's an Adventist?"

Heman S. Gurney, a blacksmith, came to join the Advent movement after listening to Advent preacher William Miller tell of Christ’s soon return. Later, he came to accept Ellen Harmon’s claims of being a godly messenger only after conducting his own personal investigation on the matter. This was only the beginning of Gurney’s faith walk. His story is one filled with love for Christ and a simple yet relentless faith. Gurney was also known as the singing blacksmith for the fact that he always seemed to carry a tune in his heart. His biography tells us that his favorite song was “I’m a Pilgrim and I’m a Stranger.” (Click on title to listen to podcast).
This week Jesse Sias tells the story of this little known but dedicated Adventist pioneer whose faith and dedicated service is a reminder to all of us that no matter what our walk in life, we can do great things for God’s kingdom. Also in this podcast, “A Morning Prayer” and the American “Hymn Queen.”
