The truth is, every Christian can be and should be an evangelist.

Harold Camping recently made a prediction that the beginning of the "end of the world" would happen on May 21, 2011. His prediction garnered enough attention from the media to make it one of the most publicized “end of the world” predictions in quite some time. While Camping claimed that his prediction was straight out of the Bible, many, including Christians, were certain that this prediction would certainly bite the dust and go down in history as just another scandalous hoax. This had led many people to continue to doubt the reliability of Bible prophecy.

This week Jesse Sias sits down with WAA Contributor Pastor Tony Gonzales to talk about where Camping’s prediction went wrong and whether the Bible can truly be a reliable source of prophecy. Jesse and Pastor Tony also talk about a failed prophetic prediction in Adventist history that took place in the mid-1800’s that came to be known as the “Great Disappointment" as well as explore a number of Old Testament prophecies that came true! (click on title to hear podcast).

WAA Podcast Episode 34: Prophecy, This is Serious Stuff (61:42)

Welcome to another podcast episode of "What's an Adventist?"

“And the Lord God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers…because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, till there was no remedy.” (2 Chronicles 36:15, 16)

Anyone reading this Biblical passage would see the seriousness of messing with God’s word or his prophets. At the same time one would notice that God sent his prophets because he had compassion on his people who time and time again were found rebelling against God’s covenant. This pretty much sums up the whole purpose of prophecy. Prophecy is an expression of God’s love towards a fallen humanity and a warning to the destructive effects of falling away from His will.

This week Jesse Sias and Samuel Ikonne sit down with SDA Pastor Tony Gonzales to talk about how prophecy impacted God’s people in Biblical times and the role Adventism has played in impacting modern times through the historical understanding of the books of Daniel and Revelation (click on title to listen to podcast).

When I tell people that I’m Adventist their first response is, “Oh, you guys don’t eat pork, right?” People generally know that Adventists have a different diet which includes abstaining from certain meats, foods, and drinks. This dietary lifestyle stems from what is known as the “health message” in Adventist circles. Although the health message has been a source of longevity and happiness for many Adventists, its history is filled with stories of sacrifice, conflict, disagreements, and humor, which continue even to this day (click on title to hear podcast).

This week Jesse Sias and special guest Abraham Miranda take a closer look at the history behind the Adventist health message and how it has evolved into one of the more recognized aspects of Adventism.

Prophets have always been the subjects of serious scrutiny, and rightly so. Jesus told his followers to be careful because there would be false prophets that would try to deceive them. The apostle John advises Christians to test the spirits to see if they are truly from God. So when one learns that Adventists believe that one of the founders of Adventism was a prophet, a healthy dose of skepticism is excatly what one needs.
