Welcome to another podcast episode of “What’s an Adventist?” 

All Christians believe in one God, but not all Christians believe in the idea of the Trinity. Although the word “Trinity” never appears in the Bible (neither does the word "incarnation"), Adventists believe that, “There is one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a unity of three co-eternal Persons. God is immortal, all-powerful, all-knowing, above all, and ever present. He is infinite and beyond human comprehension, yet known through His self-revelation. He is forever worthy of worship, adoration, and service by the whole creation.” (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14; Eph. 4:4-6; 1 Peter 1:2; 1 Tim. 1:17; Rev. 14:7.) 

The idea of the Trinity or the “Godhead” was even controversial among the early Adventist pioneers. Today there continues to be some struggle in trying to understand this part of God’s nature.

This week Jesse Sias and Abraham Miranda continue their series of commentary on the fundamental beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist church and talk about the second fundamental belief, “The Trinity.” This podcast is an introduction to this topic and does not cover every aspect of the idea of the Trinity in the Bible. Look out for more podcasts about this topic in the near future.

Diptheria was a deadly disease that threatened the lives of many
Americans in the 19th century

Living in the 19th century in America was like living in a third world country. Most Americans had no idea what a healthy lifestyle consisted of. As a result, many suffered from deadly diseases and because of the lack of proper medical attention many men, women, and children died. Very few medical professionals practiced natural medicine to treat their patients and those that did were not very well known nor were their methods widely accepted.

Christians were just as ignorant as the average American when it came to living a healthy life. There was very little difference in health habits between Christians and the world. Even early Adventists did not fully understand what a healthy life meant and it wasn’t until Ellen White received a divinely inspired vision that Adventists began to take a serious look at their health. This eventually helped spark a health reform movement that would literally breathe life into a sick, disease ridden, and dying nation (click on title to listen to podcast).

This week Jesse Sias talks about the vision that would eventually make Adventists the leading Christian denomination in health reform. Thank God for the light He shed on health and for alleviating some of the pain and suffering in our dying world.

Welcome to another podcast episode of "What's an Adventist?"

If someone walked into your church claiming to be a messenger from God, how would you know if you could believe their claims? 

Early in their history Adventists had to grapple with that dilemma when a young girl by the name of Ellen Harmon claimed to have dreams and visions that were divinely inspired. Contrary to what many may believe, Ellen Harmon (later known as Ellen G. White) was not quickly embraced by early Adventists. As a matter of fact, many were skeptical and were not willing to accept her messages unless they could find Biblical support for her claims. 

Today, despite her tremendous achievements and the evidence of good fruits produced by her ministry, Ellen G. White continues to be a controversial and highly scrutinized figure within and without Adventist circles.

This week Jesse Sias and WAA Contributor Roshan Mansinghani talk about the Biblical tests a person must pass if they are to be considered a prophet or messenger of God and begin a biographical journey to see whether this Advent pioneer can truly be considered a godly messenger.

WAA Podcast Episode 41: From Teacher to Preacher (54:28)

James White, started his career as
a school teacher until God changed his life

Welcome to season 3 of "What's an Adventist?"


James White wrote of his young adult days, "At the age of twenty I had buried myself in the spirit of study and school teaching and had lain down the cross...I loved this world more than I loved Christ and the next, and was worshiping education instead of the God of heaven." 


It was in this state of mind that James White set his course for life. Nothing appeared to be more important to him than having an education and developing a bright intellectual mind. But despite all of his academic and intellectual perseverance, God had different plans that would dramatically alter the course of James' life leading him to exchange worldly wisdom for the wisdom of God (click on title to hear podcast).


This week Jesse Sias gives a brief biographical sketch of one of the pioneers of the Seventh-day Adventist church. Like many of his Adventist contemporaries, James White faced many challenges and struggles in accepting God's calling in his life. The good news is that if God could use a man like James White, he can use people like you and I.
