“One night I was awakened and instructed to write a straight testimony regarding the work of our school at Loma Linda. By that school a solemn, sacred work is to be done. The teachings of health reform are to stand out clearly and brightly, that all the youth in attendance may learn to practice them. All our educators should be strict health reformers.” -Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene Ch. 32 "A Deeper Consecration"

At the time Ellen White wrote these words regarding Loma Linda, there was widespread ignorance regarding health among the general population. Loma Linda was to be a place where people could come and learn how to live healthy lives according to Biblical principles. Besides being a central part of the health reform movement, it was also to be a place of spiritual awakening. “We are called upon God to present the truth for this time to those who year by year come to Southern California from all parts of America...Never are we to lose sight of the great object for which our Sanitariums are established-the advancement of God’s closing work in the earth.” -Counsels on Health Ch. 99 "Our Southern California Sanitariums"
Loma Linda is known today as one of a handful of “Blue Zones” around the world. According to a study conducted by National Geographic, a “Blue Zone” is an area where the longest living people on earth are known to live. Recently, Loma Linda made national news when some of its residents were outraged over McDonald’s revealing its plans to set up a restaurant within the their community. Could this be major set back in God’s plans for Loma Linda? (click on title to hear podcast).
This week on “What’s an Adventist?” Jesse Sias and Samuel Ikonne talk about the recent controversy at Loma Linda and tell you what our WAA listeners had to say about it. This podcast also includes shorter commentaries on the Tebow phenomenon and on the work of one of our partner ministries “Advent Connect” out of Austin, Texas.
